Ghosts in the Network: SS7 and RF Vulnerabilities in Cellular Networks

SS7 and RF Vulnerabilities the Hot Topic at RSA 2016 Conference

Four years of government funded research. One year of penetration testing cellular networks. Les Goldsmith (@lesatesd) and Trent Smith (@trentatesd) of ESD America will be presenting their findings at the upcoming RSA Conference in San Francisco.

“Every cellular network relies on the SS7 network for billing and user location purposes. It was designed without a comprehensive threat model in mind, and there are significant vulnerabilities which can be exploited. The radio frequencies can also be manipulated in ways that compromise the networks. The SS7 and RF vulnerabilities combined represent significant risks for global mobile users.”

RSA appear to consider this required viewing as it’s one of the only talks that’s scheduled twice during conference week.
